On March 28, 2006 it will be the 27th anniversary of the nuclear accident at Three Mile Island near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I had just moved my family to South Jersey from York, Pennsylvania.
When I heard about the accident I got very nervous. On the Sunday after the accident I got in my car and drove to York. I picked up my daughter who I had left there to complete her last couple of months of High School. I picked her up and never took her back.
There was quite a bit of news about the accident at Three Mile Island in South Jersey, at least enough to cause me concern. In York, there was no news. The people didn’t know what was going on; certainly nothing serious.
I realized the news was in blackout in York. I packed up my daughter and headed for South Jersey, hoping that not too much of the fallout would drift our way. An evacuation of the area in Pennsylvania was eventually initiated.
Three Mile Island was a major disaster downplayed by the White House. Admiral Rickover presented a full report and was later sorry that he was not able to persuade President Carter to make a full disclosure of the event. I remember what the public was told. We were told that only a small amount of radiation had leaked out of the facility and that the public was not in danger.
What happened was that a reactor went into melt down and 10 years later it was still too dangerous to approach. Some folks that lived in the area got large awards for possible damage. These awards were given in secret. One woman was given an award for having a Down syndrome baby—possibly not caused by radiation—but she was paid anyway.
After the incident, the company who owned Three Mile Island requested that they be allowed to release a million gallons of contaminated water as steam. As one might expect, there was resentment that they would even suggest it.

Just over thirty years ago I toured the nuclear reactors here in Idaho. There was a major nuclear accident at Arco just a few years before my visit. An experimental reactor called SL-1 (Stationary Low-Power Plant Number 1) was destroyed when a control rod was removed incorrectly leading to core meltdown and explosion. All three men working in the reactor were killed. Due to the extensive radioactive isotope contamination, all three had to be buried in lead coffins. The events are the subject of a book published in 2003, “Idaho Falls: The untold story of America’s first nuclear accident.”
The accident was vivid in the minds of the engineers and physicist we talked to at Arco. Doctors and nurses had little time to work on contaminated workers. They showered together to reduce nuclear exposure. There was no blackout on the Arco accident. I knew the details before I got to Arco.
Every precaution is taken to prevent disaster in nuclear operations. The problems come when automatic safety systems don’t work, when operators make mistakes or fail to make needed correction either because of error or lack of knowledge, or the corrective action is impossible.
When nuclear reactors are working safely, there is still the problem of nuclear waste. I worked on this over thirty years ago. Technology has improved since my day but there is tremendous cost in the stabilizing or isolating nuclear waste. Does your state want nuclear waste facilities? I didn’t think so. Some states object to nuclear waste being transported across their state lines.
Here is my take on nuclear operations: The past has shown that we have not been able to operate safely.

Small business incorporation can make wonderful legal and tax sense. No argument.
But new entrepreneurs need to know that a handful of incorporation scams often ensnare small businesses. And that is truly unfortunate. Getting entangled in an incorporation scam always creates headaches, usually wastes money and may even cause you to inadvertently break the law.
Scam #1: Incorporating for Automatic Tax Deductions
The first incorporation scam? Incorporating because someone (often an off-base consultant or business coach) tells you that incorporation means you’ll be able to magically turn personal expenses like cars and travel into business deductions.
The reality sandwich is this: Incorporation does not automatically produce tax savings, and incorporation does not automatically convert personal expenses to tax deductions.
The general rule–which works for sole proprietorships, partnerships, regular corporations and S corporations–says that any ordinary and necessary business expense can be deducted. Personal expenses, in comparison, can not be deducted.
One related point should be made, too. The tax accounting rules for entities do differ. For example, sole proprietorships have some tax planning tricks that can sometimes make them the best entity choice. So do partnerships and corporations.
You definitely do want to consider the tax features of the various entity choices you have available. A corporation (either a regular C corporation or a Subchapter S corporation) might, in your specific case, be optimal. Or perhaps a partnership might be best for you. You should consider all your options.
But incorporating a business for automatic extra tax deductions, well, that’s really just a scam.
Scam #2: Incorporating in Nevada to Avoid Your State’s Corporate Taxes
The second incorporation scam is incorporating in Nevada (or incorporating in some other no-corporate-taxes state) to avoid your state’s taxes.
The Nevada incorporation scam promises naïve business owners that incorporating, say, a California business in Nevada will mean the business doesn’t have to pay California state corporate income and franchise taxes. The scam sometimes also promises that the business owner will avoid having to pay personal state income taxes.
Anybody who suggests that this scam works is either an idiot or a criminal… or maybe both.
Two problems exist with the Nevada incorporation scam. Problem one is that if your Nevada corporation does business in, say, California, you still have to register your corporation with California. That registration means you will have to pay any state franchise taxes.
Problem two? If a corporation earns profits in a state, that state gets to tax those profits. If a Nevada corporation in actuality operates in California, for example, all of the profits are subject to California income taxes–regardless of where the corporation was formed.
The bottomline? Make sure you don’t incorporate in some other state because you think that will let you avoid paying taxes to the state you actually live and work in. The incorporate-in-Nevada scam amounts to state tax evasion, pure and simple.
And by the way just to make this point: If you’re a Nevada business? Absolutely you should incorporate your business in Nevada. Nevada incorporation, for Nevada firms, is the right state.
Note: Scam #1 and #2 are actually pretty serious problems to get caught up in. Both scams, once you know the law, probably amount to criminal tax evasion.
Scam #3: Paying for Registered Agent Services in your Home State
Scam #3 amounts to only a minor if costly annoyance: paying someone to be your registered agent in your home state.
Here’s the deal with registered agents. The state where your corporation operates wants to know the name and contact information for a real person. In other words, the state wants a real human being the state can contact if it has questions and to whom the state can send correspondence. The contact is called a registered agent.
Incorporation services sometimes pitch you the idea they should be your registered agent–often charging $100 to $200 a year for the service. But you don’t need this service if you, yourself, live in the state where you’re incorporated. You can be your own registered agent.
As the registered agent, you’ll be the person to whom the state sends its letters. And your name and address will probably be available online at a state web site as the contact information for the corporation. But if you’re in business, you shouldn’t have a problem with people (customers, clients, potential customers and clients, and so forth) knowing who you are and where to find you. And you shouldn’t pay potentially thousands of dollars in registered agent fees over the life of your business.

How do you control millions or billions of people and get them to do what you want? Well this is the question faced by world leaders.
The answer however is as old as humanity itself and had been effectively used over millennia to bring us to the point we currently find ourselves now in human history.
The scenario goes like this.
You want the populace to take action A but you know that A will not be readily accepted by them.
So you create a crisis B that creates fear in the populace and which causes it to demand from you a quick resolution.
Now action A is a potential albeit undesirable solution to crisis B.
In the midst of crisis B however the deeper fear of not surviving it makes any solution more tenable, even action A which under different circumstances no one would want.
So here we are, we have a frightened population demanding the resolution of crisis B and demanding anything that will make it feel a sense of greater peace.
Well action A “will” bring greater peace in the midst of crisis B and so when it is brought out as a potential solution it will more likely be accepted, won’t it?
Interestingly after the crisis is passed the action taken by the populace will start to feel more acceptable to it.
After all they all agreed to it, have now experienced it and have as a result become desensitized to its negative undesirable effects.
It is important for me to clarify the latter comment.
When an individual experiences a negative event after some time the pain of the event must become suppressed deep within their mind and body in order for them to go on functioning. If it were not they would continuously experience the pain of the event in their consciousness and this would make it impossible for them to function.
This suppression is the mechanism by which an individual becomes desensitized to a traumatic event they have experienced.
Well returning to our scenario both crisis B and the imposition of an undesirable action A are essentially traumatic to the individuals experiencing them. Hence they over time become desensitized to both A and B.
What does this mean? Well it means that over time the populace will no longer be able to feel the undesirable qualities of the imposed action A on them and hence they will continue to live with it, perhaps even believing that it is somehow necessary for their survival.
If you look around you in your life you’ll recognize how often this scenario is being used.
All you have to do is consider a current crisis in the world and ask yourself:
1. How does this crisis affect me?
2. What solutions are being proposed to deal with this crisis that under normal circumstances I would never wish on my worst enemy?
3. To what extent do I feel swayed to accept such solutions now in the midst of the crisis?
As you do this I think you will start to recognize the extent to which you are being seduced into doing things that go against your true nature.

Action 1: Selecting a mentor/coach.
You must find a mentor that has already done what you desire to accomplish. Your mentor is someone you can trust and relate with and already has their system up and running. You will be able to learn from their “system” that they have put in place. Systems do not fail..people do. The system that you are looking for has been in place for a while, has been tested and tested again and has achieved the success that you are looking for.
Make sure that your Mentor has a vested interest in your success. This is no different than what happens in your JOB today. By JOB I mean a position that you hold that you trade time for dollars. Your manager has a vested interest in your success and is compensated for that. If you are in sales, managers’ bonuses are a direct result in what their sales consultants accomplish. I was that manager..I know..Being financially compensated by mentoring (managing) establishes a win-win relationship which is necessary to any success.
Make sure that you ask the question “Is the system that I am looking at able to be duplicated?” Are other people from varying backgrounds, varying careers and varying experiences using the exact system with success? The success, your success, is not necessarily dependent as to whether you have the exact experience in the industry that you are choosing because it is the system that you are looking at.
Mentoring, coaching, managing, whichever word you choose is a primary was of learning. Make it your choice to seek and find the best of the best to work with and learn from, and once you have found that person, demand only the best.
Action 2: Make sure that the system that you are looking for is a true system.
Ask the following questions; does the system that I am looking at have an entire team that I can count on? In addition to my mentor and their personal coaching and training, does it have the added, professional training that I am looking for in marketing, additional coaching and training in learning the products and is there technical support if I need it? Is the marketing system turnkey, does it have marketing opportunities both online and offline? Does it have customized websites and auto-responders that I can utilize if I choose to do so, or does it afford me the opportunity to be creative and make my own websites and auto-responders? The system you look at should be tested so that anyone can easily get started, duplicate it and get concrete results within a reasonable amount of time meaning within months, not years.
The following should be the deal stopper for you: Does the company rely on you to figure out your own marketing and lead generation system? If this is the case and there is not a proven, tested and reliable way of getting quality prospects in front of you and your products, take careful consideration in aligning yourself with that company. Without a solid marketing and lead generation plan, success in the long term will probably be an uphill battle every step of the way.

Research and find a business system and a product (they go hand in hand) that you feel is correct for you. There are actually many businesses out there that are legitimate home based businesses that you can and should do your due diligence on. When you find the business that you feel will be correct for you, talk with friends, family and acquaintances and if you can talk with them without being embarrassed, then you have found the correct business for you.
Action 4: Make sure that the company that you partner with is stable, has a long term vision and that they will be financially secure in the long run.
Is the company registered with the Attorney General, and is it doing business legally and ethically. Does the company have their business plan ready and can it be reviewed by anyone who would like to review it? This is your business, your reputation and your future. Choose wisely and then choose the best company for you.
Another point that you want to seriously consider: do you have to buy, handle, and be accountable for inventory? Is this the type of business that you are looking for? There are companies, if set up properly, where you are not responsible for, you do not have the added expense of and do not have the headaches of maintaining inventory at all.
Finally, when looking at the company that you are going to partner with make sure that there is an entire team to support you from the very top on down. Don’t just rely on your mentor, although they should be a part of your decision and will be a part of your success. If you are looking at a company with high integrity and substance, you will be able to talk with any number of people at any given time.
Action 5: Choose your Business Model wisely.
The MLM’s of yesteryear are gone. At least the ones with the potential of any significant income and long term wealth. You really must look at Top Tier Direct Marketing Business Models. Some points to consider as you are researching your business model; will you be able to go full time (if that is your goal) within months and not years? Do you have to give up your first 1-5 sales to your mentor or up-line? This is your business, choose it wisely. Choose a business system that allows you to keep your sales from sale number one. If you read “Why We Want You to Be Rich” by Donald Trump and Richard Kiyosaki (which I suggest you do) the top tier; Direct Marketing Business is the model that they would choose if they had to make their millions all over again. Even Warren Buffet, the second wealthiest man in the world has purchased several Direct Sales/Direct Marketing companies and is looking to buy more in the coming years.
Action 6: Make sure that your business model has multiple streams of income built into it. (Many do not)
What does Multiple Streams of Income mean? Multiple streams of income allows you to earn a full time income on your own marketing efforts and another full time income residual income from the efforts of your organization over a period of time. This residual income does not happen overnight..it takes time and a bit of effort. But, if you are earning enough income from your own efforts, which you should be if you choose a top tier, Direct Marketing business, you will be able to stay in the game long enough to reap the rewards that you have sowed.
The old game show stating “You are the weakest link..Good-Bye” couldn’t be truer. If just one of the six steps is missing, the others don’t really matter. Make sure that when you are choosing a business that all six steps are in place.
Life is about choices and the choice is yours. Listen to your intuition..your gut feeling. If you feel good about the company you are about to partner with, then terrific! Go after the opportunity with all the passion that you have. However, if the little guy in your head is talking to you and giving you doubt and if you cannot seem to get straight answers about the products or the marketing system; look for something else that might be better suited for the goals that you have set forth for future and for yourself.
Unfortunately there are 100’s of scams out there just waiting to eat your money, but there are also a lot of good, solid and legitimate companies as well. Do your due diligence and you will find them. Be proud and be passionate about what you are doing. Help and serve others and your success, happiness and wealth will all be yours.

The best Way to Get High Google Pagerank
Many newbies when they come online attempt to get free traffic as quickly as possible. So they link to anyone who will link to them - including link farms and traffic exchange programs. This is a mistake. These types of websites provide zero end-user benefit. They have little to no content - just a bunch of useless links. I call these types of sites “garbage websites,” because the quality of traffic that they send you will be just that - garbage!
Look, there’s nothing wrong with trying to get as many inbound links to your site as you possibly can. That should always be your goal. But you can’t approach link-building blind-folded. You have to do it the right way, because all links are not created equal.
For instance, if you have a website whose theme is internet marketing, a link from a site that sells real estate is of no value to you. It just isn’t. And if you sell hosting services, linking to a political site does you absolutely no good. In fact, non-relevant links might actually cause you to get penalized by the search engines. See my point?
The only links that you should attempt to obtain are quality, relevant links - period. Links that are compatible to the overall theme of your site. That’s what the search engines judge you on.
Speaking of search engines, make no mistake, Google, Yahoo, and MSN pay close attention to who you’re linking to and who’s linking to you. In fact, when it comes to PageRank, Google places more weight on link quality and relevance than to the link itself.
So go ahead and link. Just do so responsibly!
